This is a meditative album, steeped in melancholy and sadness. Almucantarat’s sound blends atmospheric post-black metal with subtle hints of synthwave. The vocals are entirely improvised during recording, guided by emotion and experience rather than written lyrics. Since every vocal part was recorded spontaneously, the band chose not to transcribe them—believing this raw, unfiltered approach adds deeper emotional resonance to the music.
Excellent second album by the Irish band. They take elements form black, death, doom, and their traditional music to portray a wide variety of atmospheres and moods. Guttural growls are used in contrast with harmonious choral sections and ‘sean-nós’ vocals. Irish melodies and time signatures are incorporated with aggressive metallic and progressive elements. This distinctive approach to metal music coupled with lyrics sung entirely in Gaelige truly makes Corr Mhóna a one of a kind band.
This debut, packed with hypnotic piano melodies, funereal riffs, and desperate cries, is inspired by Homer’s “Odyssey”, and ‘tragic’ and ‘epic’ are the most suitable words to describe this melodic death doom opus. Tormented souls who follow Saturnus, Doom:VS, and My Dying Bride closely will certainly feel at home among the long mythological wails of White Mare.
Ninth album by the incombustible Polish band, one of the great bastions of underground black metal in their country. “Nine Sins” generated mixed opinions, but we’re sure that their approach to fast-paced blackened death will end up slitting your throat.
Melodic, atmospheric, melancholic, and emotive black metal emanating from one of the most icy areas of Eastern Europe. Their crystalline sound helps to convey the feelings of a surprising album, full of dark beauty. Great opus!
